Shoe
This is the most important part of the equipment which you will need as the right kind of shoe will prevent you from falling overboard. Most sailing have a white bottom sole to prevent staining the boat as black bottom sole shoe do not do well in boats with white or beige decks.

Hat
A good hat will prevent you from sunburn and keeps it on your head when there is a huge gust of wind. A good hat also has an adjustable draw string as I have seen many hat or cap floating on the water.

Almost everyone sailing will need a good pair of sailing gloves to prevent injury to your hands when you are running the lines or turning the boat wrench.

Life Jacket
You have the option on choosing a manual or automatic inflation. Manual is great if you want to use for kayaking or boating on a lake. My preference is automatic especially when you fall off the water, you might not be able to pull the cord to inflate the life jacket. However, if you pay a little more, you can get the option of having the ability to switch between manual and automatic.
